day 2 of a super fun week

Yesterday at about 5 am there was a thunderstorm here. When I saw a tweet from the weatherman about checking his basement, I thought, huh...maybe I should go check ours. Turns out we had some flooding. There was a few inches of standing water in half the basement. The landlord came over and though he was nice has sort of said 'It rained a lot, that is the problem. The end.' I am not so down with that but really there is little we can do about it. He wanted us to move out last spring so he could sell the house...I guess we should have listened and done it.

Oh well - off to check on the de humidifier which may belong to a Canadian Ambassador from a recently evacuated middle eastern country.

  1. I didn't sign up because I don't feel like I have any special skills. I have thought about doing a how to help someone on evac guide or a how to stay sane at a lock down post. Would either of those work? Or maybe a "kitchen stuff to buy if you have a kind with allergies overseas?"

  3. lock downs? Evac guides? Crap...I can sew but, apparently, have no real life FS skills. If you don't guest post here about them, I wanna know about these things. (And, A, if YOU feel like you are not on the same page as everyone else, try being a not-really-a-FS-blogger and not fitting in with the military community! I haven't felt this out of place since junior high!)

  4. Nobody fits in. We just all pretend well :) Sewing is an awesome FS skill, as is finding the cool in everything you see. You seem to be good at that Heather. I actually have some evac info and stuff on my blog if you hit the "New to FS" link. Good luck!

A I think the guest blogger idea is fantastic! I am including you in the Round Up this week.

  6. Hello! I just saw at Becky's (Small Bits) about the whole guest posting idea... Find it pretty clever, but I'm not sure how to help... (smiles!) With you, share the Montessori philosophy (myself, as a Montessory kid, and my kids attending a M. School in Brazil). Lived in Southern Africa for 3 yrs, and had my middle daughter there. One yr in Africa as a single mom (hubby in DC). Love designing, paper crafts, creating cards (volunteer with operationwritehome.org for sending cards to our deployed soldiers) and love blogging about tips and not-so-professional advice on raising third culture kids in the FS (posts/tips/suggestion of resources), as well as offering resources for expat parents here in NE Brazil... Boy,i wrote a lot - sorry for that! :o) Let me know if we could do something together... it'd be fun! Cheers from Recife!
