Welcome to the 4th somewhat annual FS Swap. If you have swapped before, the rules will be the same, if you are new to the swap, please read carefully.
This swap is for foreign service people. The employee or the spouse. People must actually be employed already and be serving at at least their first post, and yes, DC, is a post. If you don't know what a swap is, it is when you are matched up with someone randomly and you make friends a little via email and then send them a little fun care package or item from your current post and they do the same for you. This could be an excellent bidding tool and also super for kids, "See Suzy, these people in Kuala Lumpur have our same couch! How fun!" Try and figure out what your swap pal likes if you can, or just come right out and ask what they might want. People in DC, we know you are at the ultimate hardship post, so please do join in, you might get someone in Abuja who would love some cupcake liners and M & M's from the US. You never know and people are generally easy to please and make happy when mail is involved. Feel free to make it kid centric if you both have kids and agree.
Here are the IMPORTANT instructions - You need to leave a comment on this post saying you would like to join with your first name, your current post and your email address. If you also have a blog, super I can link that too, but it is not a must. And please, even if I know you in real life, follow the directions. I can easily forget things and then I feel very bad about it.
Sign up's close on January 19. Then you will have until February 19 to get to know your swap pal and get your shopping done. Swapping mailing addresses will be up to you to do with each other via email after you have been matched. Matching should happen on January 20. I cannot take special requests but can promise you will not be matched with another person serving in the same country.
Happy swapping and feel free to spread the word!
